SD-WAN & Optimizations

Prioritizing, optimizing and stabilizing every network

Software-defined wide area networking, as its name suggests, is a software-defined approach to managing company-owned networks. This technology assists in routing traffic between branches, setting policy and securing connections. SD-WANs also focus on optimizing the WAN, finding the most efficient travel routes for traffic, to ensure top of the line performance. NetMotion does this not only for networks you own, but for personal networks, home WiFi and cellular connections without the need for any hardware.

Improve any network

With the growth in remote working, IT has to manage and secure countless unknown networks in employee homes, as well as cellular ones like 4G and 5G. NetMotion helps eliminate disconnects and makes connections significantly more resilient. It also allows you to prioritize mission critical traffic over less important data and even improves the quality of video and audio communication.

Your SASE strategy

We understand that your journey to SASE is unique. SD-WAN solutions work for some and not for others. If you’re not implementing WAN optimizations, it by no means shows that your company isn’t covering your bases with your existing setup. We’re here to help you transition to a more seamless, secure, cloud-centric environment and abide by the SASE framework.

The benefits of SD-WAN

Improves performance

Businesses rely on the fact that SD-WAN solutions can optimize their branch-to-branch connections. IT teams leverage this technology to efficiently steer traffic on the most efficient routes, prioritizing mission critical connections when needed. This reduces packet loss and improves speed, ultimately improving the user experience for those employees using corporate networks.

Boosts security

The majority of SD-WAN solutions offer some sort of built-in security for traffic. This can be, at a minimum, a VPN and a firewall. That being said, given the widened attack surface created by the increasingly remote workforce, it’s important to look for an SD-WAN solution that provides a wide range of integrated security features.

Enables cloud-access

SD-WAN technologies enable cloud access at remote branches, meaning traffic doesn’t need to be forced back through to a centralized datacentre. This is helpful in that it reduces latency and doesn’t clog the core network with additional traffic to manage and secure. The risk that exists however, is that the organization loses visibility and control over this traffic. This is why organizations usually leverage other security tools on top of SD-WAN to monitor connections to cloud applications.

NetMotion has SASE solutions

SASE encompasses a number of different technologies and solutions, ranging from SD-WAN to VPN. The NetMotion platform demonstrates leadership and capabilities in all solutions called out by Gartner as being ‘core components’ of SASE.

NetMotion + SD-WAN

NetMotion is not a traditional SD-WAN solution. It does however offer many of the same benefits for organizations looking to transition to SASE. Similar to SD-WAN solutions, the NetMotion platform enables the efficient routing of traffic with sophisticated optimization techniques and a highly customizable policy engine, keeping workers secure, connected and productive.

Allows IT teams to set policy in order to prioritize mission critical traffic

Automatically reduce the intensity and frequency of network performance problems

Patented algorithms significantly improve the quality of video conferencing

Diagnose all network issues with powerful root-cause analysis dashboards

Granular controls that can enforce dynamic acceptable use policies at the edge

Deploys hardware-free in the cloud, allowing for scalability and flexibility

SD-WAN

is a part of the SASE framework

SASE encompasses a number of different technologies and solutions. Learn more about the various components of SASE:

  • Cloud access security broker (CASB)
  • Edge secure web gateway (SWG)
  • Experience monitoring (DEM)
  • Firewall as a service (FWaaS)
  • Cloud VPN
  • Software-defined WAN (SD-WAN)
  • Zero trust network access (ZTNA)
  • NetMotion as a service (Cloud)

SD-WAN will be a critical driver of SASE adoption in the short term, but its importance as a distinct networking function will fade as more and eventually all traffic is routed through the SASE solution instead.
