Customer Success Story:

Meeting stringent security requirements wins customer contracts for S&N

The Challenges
S&N Communications provides construction and engineering services to utilities and telecommunications carriers. With 1,200 employees operating from 60 offices in 38 states, mobile connectivity and data security are paramount. However, by sharing devices among employees without requiring unique logins, S&N struggled to provide the consistent level of data security its clients required. On top of that, connections frequently dropped, with each incident costing field workers five to ten minutes to resolve. When they did have connectivity, they would frequently submit the same data multiple times. Connectivity problems increased the burden on the IT department, with many issues requiring devices to be serviced by technicians in person. This meant less time in the field servicing customers and completing jobs. S&N’s IT department knew it needed a better solution.
The Solution
Since implementing NetMotion, S&N has the security assurance it needs to win customer contracts. With user log-in now mandatory along with strict data encryption and network policies, S&N now meets clients’ information-sharing and compliance requirements. These actions have reduced the number of viruses and security threats and allowed IT to create a WAN that is accessible by workers in the field. NetMotion’s compression, application persistence and stability across network sources provided workers with a traditional workstation experience right in their vehicles. The solution was so successful that S&N expanded it company-wide. “Every mobile computer, regardless of the user’s role, gets NetMotion – including C-suite, directors and area managers,” said Brett Hatfield, Director of Information Services.
S&N has dramatically streamlined its device deployment process. With NetMotion, the company can push updates to machines without manual intervention. “We image the machines and spin up the user’s phone, connect them, close them down, flag them for a required password change and ship them the box,” continued Hatfield. “When the user receives the machine, even though they’ve never had any contact with the IT department, they open the machine, turn on their phone, turn on their hotspot, boot up, sign in, and they are connected to the network and ready to work.”
The S&N team knows who signed in, from which machine, when they connected, and any resources that were accessed.
