On Location with Oregon State Police
Earlier this year, we had the privilege of spending two days with the Oregon State Police (OSP) to see first-hand results from their evaluation of our mobile performance management software. We love hearing our customer’s stories and OSP was nice enough to let us film the experience.
Oregon State Police deploys over 400 mobile terminals statewide. Their officers and field employees regularly work from their vehicles and move between several networks throughout the day. Relying on public cellular networks for much of their network access, officers experienced connectivity issues due to the wide geographic area they cover.
“Before Locality, we did our best to troubleshoot issues by asking officers to describe their symptoms. Without any cold, hard data, though, we struggled to know exactly what change was necessary.”
Chief Technology Officer, OSP
The evaluation helped them greatly reduce their connectivity issues but we were surprised to hear about another benefit: OSP shares its data with Oregon’s Geospatial Enterprise Office, helping them create an interactive map of existing coverage across Oregon’s 98,000 square miles.
“The maps have applicability for economic development, for health and human services, education and certainly for public safety.”
Deputy Statistics Information Officer, Geospatial Enterprise Office
By the end of the evaluation, OSP had solved its connectivity issues, improved officer response times and was even able to notify cellular carriers about areas where service was limited. Overall, we were excited to hear such great feedback. We understand how important connectivity is to their organization and we’re proud to be a part of the process.
